I was just thinking that these “day-old gorgeous flowers” donated by Trader Joes might actually “minister” to nursing home residents. I don’t mean me – I mean the actual flowers. The other day, they were used as a “Welcome” gift for a new resident, a Director of Nursing took some bouquets to a luncheon to honor volunteers, and one was given to Sandy, a lady who was grieving that several of her friends had passed away within the month.
One lady had just gotten bad news from her doctor. And a lady from NYC wasn’t too happy about living in Pennsylvania. It wasn’t her choice to move. In the midst of life’s challenges, I witness a pretty sight to watch – the ladies are hugging the flowers and it appears that the flowers are hugging them back.
The comfort of the flowers – a gentle, healing touch from the petals and the sweet smell of roses, orchids, gladiolas…and you name it!
