The Latest on the VA Medical Center project

To all of the wonderful people who responded to my requests for letters of gratitude for the Vets at the Southeastern Medical Center in Spring City, PA. We were there from 10 am until 1pm. Your sentiments brought tears to the eyes of many of the men and women that we visited today. I wish you all could have been there to witness the miracle of what happened there, because of your letters. We visited three different floors of patients/residents and we could not have brought better gifts. Your words of encouragement and appreciation brought what no amount of money could ever buy for a person, appreciation and recognition of their sacrifice and service.

The message below is what I sent to the three ladies, who helped me put the letters together, buy the treats, and joined me at the Vets Home today.

Dear Ms. A, Joanna and Julie,

Thank you all so much for all that you did to contribute to the wonderful experience at the VA Home. Ms. A is the woman who responded to the Craig’s List posting and put together the beautiful binders of letters, and added all of the special touches , such as  the individual letter cards and holiday paper, the Gettysburg Address, the inspirational quotes, the tributes to the Vets, and just everything that made reading the letters such a heartwarming experience. I know that it must have taken you at least 8 hours to compile everything. And, I am so grateful for you not only helping with this little last minute project but for the new friendship! Your presentation binder looked like something that was prepared for the President of IBM…just so first class!

Julie and Joanna,

You were both such an absolute blessing and angels who just came out of the air,  from heaven above. Julie, I think that your mom inspired you in some way. All of the cookies and the attractive goodie bags made everything so festive! And Joanna, you must have spent a week’s pay buying all of the  candy, and the special kind for  Henry. That made him feel good that his requested candy was in the bag.  I don’t even know where to begin to try to describe to Ms. A, who wanted to come with us, but was not able to, what each floor was like. I know that we really made a difference and uplifted the spirits of lots of people. I thought that one group, the ones who were watching the Lawrence Welk Show, were going to be a bit of a challenge, but with our collective efforts, , it turned out to be so wonderful! You are all such amazing  women and I am so grateful, not only for your company today, but also for all of the time that you spent preparing, driving and then being a part of a little holiday impromptu “performance.” And Joanna, you drove a long way to get there, lots of gas, tolls and time.

It truly was nothing sort of miraculous how you all came into my life, and this project happened. Now, what to do with the 101 Letters of Gratitude for Vets that I have stored on my computer? I think they are too good to limit to just this one audience. I guess we will be guided from above, and maybe by Julie’s mom as to the next step. And a special thank you to Bonnie who arranged for Mr. Albrecht’s class to write letters and to Trish O. who spread the word to so many of her family and friends, probably 10 letters of gratitude, came from her efforts alone. Trish O’s letter was the first I received and the last one, number 101, was from her friend. And to the folks that  sent beautiful graphics and photos with your letters, a heartfelt thank you. Every single letter was so appreciated. Especially, at this very busy time, the fact that 101 people cared enough to respond to a stranger’s request for letters, is something to be so grateful for.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and holiday season!
I look forward to hearing from you again!
Thank you so very much,

Trisha
